That site was run by Mardi Snipes, and yes, the site has been discontinued. Go join the SHHS (Southeastern Hot Herp Society) and post the question there .There are LOTS of knowledgeable people who will be more than willing to assist you in finding what youre looking for.

To the bloke who posted the list of venomous - bad news.
There's loads you missed out.
I think you only had 4 of 15 Acanthophis named taxa for a start.
Then add a load of other elapids recently described (last ten years) in Australia,
Asia and AFRICA.
But don't worry too much.
By the time you get your list up to scratch, someone will discover and name something else.
Another problem is who will agree with you.
Cogger 2000 refused to recognise more than three Acanthophis taxa, but later authors are starting to recognise the other taxa, especially the non-Australian ones like laevis and rugosa, which authorities like Cogger have steadfastly refused to recognise as different from praelongus.
My own views are well known and subject to flames from my least favourite stalkers, but with other taxa of which I haven't dabbled (Naja, e.g.) the story is the same, it's just those who agree and disagree have different names.
ALL THE BEST

hey adder... flamers attract the flames... didnt you know that?

It is in regards to something else im working on...

if you have an understanding for logic and english (which I doubt on both) you'll make note that perhaps the list isn't complete in the first place and he already knows that... so instead of making yourself out to be the good guy about the "incomplete" list.... how about asking why for a specific reason as to why the list is incomplete.. you just might get an acceptable answer.

I don't think adder intended for it to be a personal attack. I think he is just trying to make the point that taxonomy is always debatable.

of course taxonomy is always debatable.. as it has been since day one.. it changes constantly to keep up with the new discoveries and the reclassifications of old species based on new scientific findings.. science is an ever changing world, and debate is always welcomed and warrented...

but based on what he (adder) said, it sounded like an intended attack on someone else's level of intelligence..(i am guilty of it myself as well as everyone else on this forum) im not saying that i'm defending scott.. although he's more than capable of doing it himself im sure.. but when people question someone else's ability when it's a known fact that scott's knowledge is comparable to some of the best, then adder's comment wasnt necessary... other wise he wouldnt have said

My own views are well known and subject to flames from my least favourite stalkers

That alone makes him look guilty at his own indirect admission...

the whole point of my post was to point out that maybe just maybe scott did not post a complete post for a reason... personally, I know what the reason is behind the incomplete list.... but it isnt my place to say as I have given scott my word not to say, and it up to people to take the initiative and ask him why it is incomplete..

I definately concur..

I just never realized how many common names my favorite cobra, Naja melanoleuca has! I always knew them as just forest cobras and probably with good reasoning too....i even remember seeing the coral snake list for the first time a while back and all i could say is "this has got to be some kind of sick joke" haha

I love forest cobras! When I was still working near the coast, I got many call outs for these. Awesome animals.

I'm still in the learning stages with venomous snakes and try to study up as much as I can on hots i want to work with, and hope to have my venomous permits and whatnot within the next few years, once my personal life calms down...
but I hope to work with forest cobras someday..they are just amazing creatures.. their habits, manurisms, attitude.... i could go on about them all day. They are just a wonderful snake period.

those and east african green mambas... I would kill to have one of those as my first hot to work with, but of course a few people think im a little psychotic about it, so i'm heavily thinking about the gabbies which sounds a little more reasonable.. hahaha

Forest cobras get very "tame" in captivity. They give you a few hair raising moments though, especially at feeding time (they charge out that cage like they are after a train, just to get the offered meal)
