  1. PS: we do have a Buyer/Seller section as part of the classifieds, I'd suggest checking there to see if anyone has had any successful dealings with him..
  2. Hmm, can't say I've heard anything, but I usually just choose to ignore people that ask what I'm selling. If I have something to sell, I'll post it in the classifieds.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Welcome, Mac. If you have photos of the scorpion, you can post them in the Scorpion forum and see what we can find out for you. Will also depend on where you live too, so that information will be helpful.
  5. Judging by the size of your scorpion, it'll be a long time before you have to worry about molting. As for feeding, no more than once a week is really necessary. You can offer up a two or three crickets at a time. There will come a time when he swells up like and american football, and then molting will follow. These scorpions like to burrow, so make sure the substrate is deep enough for it to do so. The burrow will also help create a pocket of very high humidity. I would suggest misting the tank only once or twice a week to help maintain moisture.
  6. So much information out there. All of it is wrong and all of it is right. People have gone to extremes with Emperors, and I believe that whatever works best for you is what you should be doing. The ExoTerra's are really nice, but your scorpion isn't going to be making use of that vertical height at all, so it becomes a bit of a waste. I tend to prefer something the size of a 5 gallon tank (16X8X10 inch or 40x20x25cm). While scorpions will not climb the glass, a screen top is suggested to keep things out, too. Any type of soil you want will be fine. I've never heard of the Spider Life stuff, but, hey, use it if you've got it. No reason to go out and get anything else. As for gravel, that's really only necessary if you are going to grow live plants in the tank with the scorpion. Doing so involves a WHOLE lot more work than I'm going to go into here. Suffice it to say, the scorpion will not care about plants one way or the other. What it will care about is burrowing, and it won't be able to burrow into gravel. As for heat, it may not be necessary. Factors such as home temperature and location of the tank could make the need for additional heat nil. That said, I would suggest putting the "under tank" heat mat onto the side of the enclosure. Nothing digs into the ground to get warm... They bask in the sun for heat, and retreat for cooler temps (or safety). If your home temperatures are generally around 21C, your scorpion should be just fine without the added heat. Otherwise, if it is kept near any heat sources (computer, tele, heater, lamps, etc) then it would also likely not need additional heat.
  7. cute lil buggers
  8. My gut immediately suggested Hottentotta hottentotta, but really tough to say with the photos provided. Is this a wild caught specimen (locality would help immensely) or purchased (common name provided)?
  9. How was the fishing? The In-Laws live in Visalia, so I try to go fishing any time we have to make the trek to CA. 2 hours isn't too far.... I couldn't even start as to guess what you might have seen. Like you said, there's the potential for a lot of strange things in the Valley. I know my first trip down there I showed my wife her friends a bunch of bugs and scorpions they never knew were there.
  10. Nice! I've always been fond of arboreal vipers
  11. The VenomList is moving to a more affordable hosting location. Some posts from this last weekend (16-19 August) may be missing. We will be remedying that as soon as possible. Other than that, you should not be able to see that things are any different.

  13. Welcome!
  14. We had a tough time with financing to keep VL afloat. But, wow, you guys are awesome and we've got the Venom List back on the boards! It's good to be back. There will be a few changes over the next few months to ensure this doesn't happen again.
